One of the more anticipated days of the high school football preseason in the state of New Jersey arrived on Friday when the NJSIAA released its 2014 public and non-public classifications.
You can find the full rundowns for all 24 state sectionals by following this link, but here is a look at the notable changes for this coming fall:
• Iselin Kennedy, which won its first playoff game in 20 years this past season in North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4, has made the jump up to North Jersey, Section 2, Group 5. Also moving up: Plainfield.
• Warren Hills is back in North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 after a still-unexplainable year in Central Jersey, Group 3. This is a move that really helps to strengthen a section that has been the poster child for sectional dilution ever since the NJSIAA went to the five group format in 2012. And yes, defending sectional Phillipsburg stays in N2G4 again this season and will once again be the overwhelming favorite entering this fall. Mendham, Morristown and West Morris are also back to add further depth.
