Power 105 disc jockey Charlamagne Tha God played a humiliating recording on the air Friday morning of boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. struggling with a few simple sentences.

The 37-year-old fighter with a 46-0 record sounds defeated trying to read a “drop” used in between radio segments on WWPR (105.1 FM).

“I’m Floyd Mayweather,” he says before stumbling for minutes through the rest of the promo that’s supposed to last about 10 seconds. The phrase “movement to support hiring vets” proves particularly vexing.

The other DJs on Power 105’s “The Breakfast Club” were reluctant to embarrass the wealthy welterweight in such harsh fashion.

“Shut the hell up! I don’t give a damn!” said Charlamagne, ignoring his fellow DJs’ concern.

Twitter quickly exploded in Mayweather mockery.

“I bet Floyd hates Alphabet Soup,” one wise guy tweeted.

Shelley Watts has become Australia’s first women’s Commonwealth boxing champion, taking out India’s Laishram Devi in the women’s light category to etch her name in the history books.

In the first tournament in the history of the Games, Watts smashed her way to the gold medal bout and would not be denied against the tough Devi, who landed some hard shots before Watts hit her straps.
Watts was happy to stand and exchange, backing her high-pressure game to overwhelm the experienced Devi, who looked strong in the opening round.

But Watts kept going forward, tucking in behind some stern defence and unleashing with left hooks and straight rights.

Devi never wilted though and the pair slugged it out right until the finish, with an overjoyed Watts being awarded a unanimous decision.
Watts has been the star of this Australian boxing team. She took up the fight game just four years ago and at just 26, looks primed for an assault on the Rio Olympics in two years.
She breezed through her semi-final but didn’t have it all her own way against Devi, who presents a strong orthodox stance and took the first round on the back of some strong straight combinations.

Boxing has a perception problem.

A big perception issue in the minds of the public, a notion that was only furthered on Saturday night when Golden Boy Promotion wunderkind Saul “Canelo” “Alvarez scored a split-decision victory over Erislandy Lara.

Entering embarrassed and humbled from a flailing at the hands of one Floyd Mayweather Jr. back in September (he’s won since, but the sting remains), Canelo flashed a new strategy and awareness against the southpaw that suggested he had learned from his recent transgression.

The problem is, many regarded Saturday night’s fight as too difficult to call, as Lara effectively controlled the pace of the match throughout—backpedaling or not. Even the numbers—recorded by Compubox, via Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix—prove, rather emphatically, that it was as close as could be:

But in the end it it didn’t matter as Alvarez won a split decision in a 12-round light middleweight bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Levi Martinez scored it 117-111 for Alvarez, while judge Jerry Roth scored it 115-113 for Lara and Dave Moretti had it 115-113 for Alvarez.

Lara landed 10 more total punches than Alvarez, but Alvarez was way ahead on power punches, most of them to the body.

Canelo, the Mexican superstar, is 44-1-1 with 31 KOs, and Lara, who defected twice from Cuba, is 19-2-2 with 12 KOs.

Alvarez said he would give Lara a rematch “when he learns to fight.”

Lara said he was “100% sure” he won the fight and asked for a rematch.
