The success of the WWE Network is contingent on attracting new subscribers to the WWE Network as well as retaining existing customers.

Beginning Sunday, August 24, customers who signed up on WWE Network’s launch day will eclipse their initial six-month commitment period.

Thus far WWE executives have been unwilling to share internal projections on WWE Network subscriber churn. We have no idea how many subscribers will choose to stick with the WWE Network and how many will let their subscriptions lapse.

On the second-quarter conference call, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) George Barrios would not answer analyst Mike Hickey’s question on what percentage of subscribers had signed up for auto-renewal.

Many were surprised by the revelation in the recent financial results that 128,000 WWE Network subscribers had already cancelled during the April to June period. Executives classified this cancellation activity as the “payment billing driven element of churn.”

This leaves WWE in a tough spot. While the company has accelerated the launch of the global WWE Network, will it be able to attract enough new subscribers to offset the customers that are leaving due to non-renewal and payment issues?

Will changes to the WWE Network service make the project a successful endeavor?

WWE kick starts its journey to the upcoming Night Of Champions pay-per-view tonight at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA.
Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels in Hall of Fame forum

RAW kicked off with Hulk Hogan coming down to the ring, which was decorated with a red mat and a table. Hulk was followed by Ric Flair, and then Shawn Michaels came out last to a huge pop. All the three sat down near the table, and Cole asked Shawn about John Cena’s chances against Lesnar at the Night of Champions for the WWE World Heavyweight championship. Shawn said there was no chance of that happening, and said Cena’s career was at crossroads. Hogan spoke next, and said Cena’s time wasn’t up yet. Hogan sucked up to Cena, and Flair spoke next, and said he agreed with Shawn. He said all the three men respect Cena, but said he stood no chance.
Cole asked Hogan who he thought would win at NOC. Hogan replied saying “Hustle, Loyalty and Respect” wasn’t just a marketing ploy, and picked Cena. HBK cut him off saying no one could take a beating like Cena did and return the same person. Hogan said Cena would find a way somehow to get his hand raised. HBK and Flair asked Hogan if he really believed that. The three men started arguing and Cena’s music hit to a mixed reaction.

Cena made his way down to the ring and acknowledged the panel. He said he was tired of hearing what people thought he should do. He said he will tell us what he will do. He talked about Brock giving him 16 German suplexes, and said he received a beatdown at SummerSlam. He said HBK was right, and that a man will not come out the same after that. He said at NOC, he will bring the fight to Lesnar. He said that at NOC, he wasn’t going in to beat Lesnar, but to beat Lesnar’s ass. He made his way back as the three HOF’ers looked on.
Analysis: That was an outstanding way to kick off RAW. This put over the seriousness of Cena’s situation, and the opinions of the fans and the performers themselves. Cena was serious for a change, which was nice to see. It will be interesting to see where WWE goes from here with Cena and Lesnar, but you have to believe that Lesnar will not lose at NOC.

WWE.com is currently advertising a SummerSlam rematch, pitting Brock Lesnar against John Cena at WWE Night of Champions.

Lesnar is coming off an unprecedented one-sided victory over Cena at SummerSlam, which will drum up discussion as to what Cena can possibly do to rebound in September.

Leading up to his rematch against Lesnar, Cena will likely question himself, apologize to his fans, tease retirement and maybe even lose his smile. But as WWE Creative puts the pieces of Super Cena back together, the last thing he should do is beat Lesnar.

To say WWE has something special on its hands with Lesnar and manager Paul Heyman is an understatement. Not only is Heyman doing the best work of his career, cementing himself as the greatest manager (of established stars) of all time, but Lesnar is on a roll that no WWE Superstar has enjoyed in the modern era.

Lesnar’s past two victories have been accompanied with shock, awe, disbelief and, most importantly, dominance. Lesnar’s WrestleMania and SummerSlam wins were so monumental, people have forgotten that he squashed the Big Show in the months prior. His evolution has been downright scary.

Lesnar was the youngest WWE champion of all time following his first WWE Championship win over The Rock in 2002. During that match, also at SummerSlam, Rock guided Lesnar to a good wrestling match that saw several instances of interference from Heyman.

Following Lesnar’s big win, Wade Keller of PWTorch wrote “Brock came through well in his first true big test as a headliner, and a lot of the credit goes to Rock.”

It was your standard main event wrestling match. At no time did any of it seem real.

Fast forward to SummerSlam, present day, where Lesnar’s maiming of Cena was akin to a bout sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission. I was live at Staples Center during the Cena squash, and every suplex created a strange mix of anti-Cena cheers and overarching concern.

Anytime WWE presents a pay-per-view as storied and prestigious as SummerSlam, there are certain expectations applied to the biggest stars and matches on the card, and understandably so.

With so much hype surrounding the show and so many fans ready to plunk down their hard-earned money to purchase the biggest event of the season, it only makes sense that people would expect the absolute best from everyone involved with the broadcast.

Some fail to live up to expectations, drawing the ire of the WWE Universe. It is inevitable. But others will rise to the occasion, exceeding any and all expectations that fans had set for them and adding their names to the long list of Superstars who either broke out or cemented their legacies at the popular event.

Those individuals will be celebrated for the quality of their performances in the immediate and long-term aftermath of SummerSlam and may even see their stock rise within the company as a result.

But who are these Superstars and Divas? Whose names will be on the lips of fans come Monday morning?

Let’s take a look, shall we?

The road to SummerSlam continued on Tuesday night, with a stop in Laredo, Texas for Friday’s Smackdown taping. The following spoilers include results from the show, in addition to the big angles that played out.
Dean Ambrose opened the show, but before he could really say much, Seth Rollins interrupted. This resulted in some verbal sparring, ultimately leading to Ambrose revealing the stipulation for their SummerSlam match. As you’ll remember from Raw, Ambrose won the right to pick the stipulation after triumphing in a beat the clock challenge.
Ambrose announced that at SummerSlam, it will be a lumberjack match. That’s hardly what the fans wanted to hear, it’s a tired gimmick that effectively cheapens Ambrose vs Rollins. These are two of the best in ring workers on the roster, they should have been contesting a serious style contest. Presumably WWE took this direction merely to get as many of their wrestlers as possible on the SummerSlam card.
Rollins closed out this opening segment by announcing that later in the show Ambrose would have to go one on one with Randy Orton.
The first match of the evening was Sin Cara vs Damien Sandow. These two men aren’t at all bad in the ring, but when they’re both buried week after week, how are fans meant to care about them wrestling each other? They have been rendered meaningless. Cara won this uninteresting match up.

The thrill of a challenger triumphing against a champion won’t happen until the final contest of WWE SummerSlam 2014.

The Miz and AJ Lee are in line to retain their titles thanks to WWE thrusting them into the spotlight and the arc of their current stories. Intercontinental Championship history favors The Miz while the recent flux of the Divas Championship suggests a more sustained title reign is ahead.

It’s Brock Lesnar who is the safest bet to leave the Staples Center with gold in hand.

SummerSlam’s main event will be Lesnar’s first action since marring The Undertaker’s perfect WrestleMania record. That’s bad news for John Cena fans hoping to see him carry on as champ. The bigger, more exciting move is for Lesnar to follow up his last win with another.

The Usos and Sheamus, meanwhile, aren’t on the SummerSlam card and have no clear contender charging at them. They may retain their belts by simply being inactive.

They can watch on, like the fans, as two champs survive and one falls victim to a hulking brute.

Intercontinental Championship: The Miz

Carrying the IC title has put a renewed focus on The Miz and highlighted his new Hollywood persona. Count on that continuing.

It’s been less than two months since he returned to WWE with an elevated sense of self-worth. Losing to Dolph Ziggler would stall the momentum that he’s just begun to build. The Miz has been the center of the story.

However, Monday’s iteration of “Raw” skewed toward an R rating when former UFC fighter Brock Lesnar, who will face John Cena in the main event in the SummerSlam pay-per-view on Aug. 17, cut a promo that had WWE fans reeling.

If you don’t have 5 minutes 44 seconds to devote to choreographed fighting, here’s the line from the above promo that got everyone talking: Lesnar threatened to leave Cena “in a pile of blood and urine and vomit.”

Lesnar’s rather absurd words almost certainly will inspire one of the most instantly catchy but grossest memes to come out of the WWE. Fans, including yours truly, reacted with a fervor online. People vined it.
